Published!

Hey y'all!
I have gathered you all here to announce that I am officially a published writer!!!
Oh my dang I still can't believe it. I am so excited!

My first article has officially been published in Latter Day Bride magazine!!!
I wrote a four page spread about weddings by season. I came up with the ideas, met with photographers, spent hours tweaking, and finally submitted all of my work complete with pictures.

It will be available in the 2010 issue of the magazine available starting in January. My name is printed right at the very top of the page! My article even made an appearance on the cover!

Love you all! Thanks for your support!

Trouble-Maker in Training

Our dog is driving us crazy. Don't get me wrong, we love the little fur baby. But he is way too smart for us. We have a barrier keeping Bandit in the kitchen because he is still potty training. Bandit, however, has taken this as a personal insult and will not tolerate only exploring a section of the house.

Because our barriers only seem to irritate him more and more, he somehow finds a way to get around them-- no matter how creative we get. This ongoing battle between man and beast has prompted me to add a list to our blog of every barrier Bandit has been able to get around up to this point and how each feat of puppy power was accomplished. As of right now, we are at six and counting. If this goes much further, we might have to surrender and buy a real baby gate. I just don't think I can give him the satisfaction. The dog is beating us, people. He knows complete amateurs when he sees them. Wish us luck.

Family additions

It has been a while since I have posted. I was expecting married life to give me more free time with wedding planning being a thing of the past, but I am finding that just the opposite is true.

Brade and I have recently had some additions to our little family, the most recent being a rather large purchase. A new car! It is a 2008 Mazda CX-7 which basically translates to being a crossover SUV. We have decided to call it Sparta. That way when we introduce it to other cars, we can say, "This is Sparta." :)

The second of the family additions has come in the form of a little fluffball named Bandit. He is about 3 months old and tons of fun. Right now we are in the training process. Meaning that Bandit is training his masters to be good pet owners. :)

The last family addition is to our bigger family. Jessalyn and Kyle are engaged! Kyle will officially join the family on March 20, 2010. Congrats to these two love birds!

As our family continues to expand, I want to thank all of you for your love and support! I hope your families continue to prosper too.

The Not-So-Much-Of-A-Break Fall Break

This past week was fall break for the U and Brade and I planned to embark upon our first adventure out of town since our honeymoon. We had a lovely weekend in St. George and spent one day in Vegas. We saw the Lion King at Mandalay Bay and tried 16 different flavors of Coke from around the world. That was mega in-tense. Vegas is always tricky for us non-drinkers, non-gamblers and non-strippers. I would definitely recommend the Coke factory for a family-friendly adventure.

Side note on the 16 flavors: Don't try the Beverly. Seriously. Don't do it.

Check out the rest of the full-color, full-frontal, full-life photos from our trip here.

This Week

I had one crazy wedding last night! I ended up having to call Brade to come be my back up. Two cars were broken into so we had to call the police. One of them was the bride's who was also sick the whole night. Among the other things ailing us were clogged and overflowing toliets, vomit all over the dance floor, prohibited tailgaiting parties with disgruntled guests when we broke them up, contaminated punch fountains, and very tired, aching feet. Dang... I love my job.

On a happier note, this weekend we are having a "Crepes and Conference" party in lieu of our traditional game night. I have been doing some searching for a really good crepe filling recipe and I think I found one. It should be a fun time!

I am having trouble getting the pictures from the Murder Mystery Dinner to post. We all had a great time and there were lots of awesome costumes! For those of you who have Facebook, I have posted them there. For all others, here is the public link: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=121557&id=554137330&l=5a8d0f05ef

One final thing to add: I have become inspired after seeing the movie "Julie and Julia." If you haven't seen it, DO. It's so good! So I am trying lots of new recipes and expanding my culinary skills thanks to Amy Adams. My husband is very happy with this idea. :) Tonight I am going to make Toffee Apple Dip. Hopefully I will have some left over for Sunday! Have a good weekend!

Britt's Writing Aspirations

The wedding industry is a very interesting line of work to be involved in. You meet all kinds of people from all walks of life and watch them try to sift through all of these elements to ultimately create this event for one of the most important days of their lives. After some prodding from my mother-in-law, I've decided that I'm going to write a book (someday) about some of the more colorful people, happenings, etc. that I have met or witnessed during my time with weddings. I'm not sure what it's going to be like yet. We will see if it turns into anything at all. But I am, after all, in school to be a writer. So we'll see what evolves from this project. For now I'm just going to record these events. Let me know if you have any ideas. Love you all!

The Murder Mystery Dinner

This Sunday we are going to have a murder mystery dinner for game night! I think it's going to be lots and lots of fun! The game is called "Deadly Ever After." The characters are all from stories from books. Hopefully everyone will dress up and get really into it. Here is the list of characters:
Brittany- Scheherazade (the victim)

Braden- Long John Silver (the pirate)

Teagan- Mr. Holmes (the detective)

Kate- Alice (the curious one)

Jessalyn- Juliet (the romantic one)

Ben- Prince C. (the charming shoe designer)

Seanne- Red Riding Hood (the baker)

Amy- Snow White (the trusting one)

Steven- The Count (the vampire)

Ian- Hamlet (the thoughtful one)

Kyle- The Mad Hatter (the fashion expert)

Cortney- Rapunzel (the hair dresser)

Preston- Robin Hood (the tree lover)

Berlyn- W. W. (the witch)

The game is on to find out who the murderer is! I will for sure post some pictures of this highly anticipated event!

*Update* This night was ridiculously fun! I would definitely recommend it for a big group activity. You can see photos here.

The Aftermath

Braden and Brittany Davis have been officially married for almost a month. We are in wedded bliss. We have been setting up our darling apartment and discovering all that we were missing out on in our past lives being just the one person. So... due to popular demand (or not so popular, but we try to convince ourselves that we're kind of a big deal) we will be keeping our blog going and torturing you all very slowly with the details of our not-very-interesting lives. I will probably have some mildy entertaining stories about weddings and falling down the stairs (or up the stairs) and Braden will keep you all on the edge of your seats as he endeavors to pick a major once and for all. I hope you enjoy the tales of the B. Davis family! We love you!
XOXO

The Wheel Barrow Challenge

So my family has this hair-brained tradition. I asked around and no one is really sure how we came up with it, but it is a part of our lives nonetheless. Yesterday we were blessed with a party thrown for us by my dear aunt and uncle, Sue and Fred. At this party, my pint-sized groom was required (as a rite of passage or something) to push me down and then back up an impossibly steep hill in a wheel barrow. I am happy to announce that he is amazing and he passed! He has officially been deemed man enough to marry me. I was very impressed. Let this serve as a warning to all of you considering marriage into the crazy Morris family. You will not be able to avoid the wheel barrow challenge!

P.S. Pictures to come soon!

The Love Slugs

Planning a wedding is a lot of work! Sometimes it's hard to find time to remember what this whole thing is supposed to be about... the relationship. :) So the past couple of weeks Braden and I have tried to take the time to just be together and play around. Here are some visual records of our games and excursions...

So far there are still happy, smiling faces... :)

This is Braden with "the love slug." His presence in our lives is a bit of a long story...

This past weekend we went to Hardware Ranch with my family. It was a little chilly. :)

My roommate has been giving us all Henna tatooes because we are cooped up inside and bored.

It's still on my finger and still really shiny. :)

So far so good. Wedding plans are going well and we are still a happy couple. :)

The Honeymoon

Picking a honeymoon spot can be tricky. There are so many exciting and exotic places to visit around the world. How to pick just one to celebrate your new marriage?

In keeping with our inner five-year-olds, Braden and I have decided to have a week of magic in Disney World! (Cheers of excitement!)

We realize this choice is a little unconventional for a honeymoon, but we act like five-year-olds anyway. :) Disney World is definitely "us."

We will be staying for a week in the Contemporary Hotel just outside the Magic Kingdom. We will be able to see the fireworks from our balcony! And we get to take a ride around Cinderella's castle in a carriage! How romantic... :) We decided that we are even going to be dorky and get those Mickey and Minnie bride and groom ears and wear them everywhere we go. :)

Wish us happy honeymooning!
XOXO

Valentine's Day

For our first Valentine's Day together, Brade and I decided to go play laser tag! Fun huh? We had a good time. We did get shown up by a bunch of high school students though... We are getting on in years. I mean, Brade sometimes complains if the music is too loud and my hip gives me trouble in bad weather. :)

Sigh... Pretty soon we'll be joining the ranks of the old, married people. ;)

Twitterpation

This is by far the best description ever given of the feeling you feel when you're in love. Here's to love! And remember, IT CAN EVEN HAPPEN TO YOU!

Flower: [about two birds fluttering around] Well! What's the matter with them?
Thumper: Why are they acting that way?
Friend Owl: Why, don't you know? They're twitterpated.
FlowerBambiThumper: Twitterpated?
Friend Owl: Yes. Nearly everybody gets twitterpated in the springtime. For example: You're walking along, minding your own business. You're looking neither to the left, nor to the right, when all of a sudden you run smack into a pretty face. Woo-woo! You begin to get weak in the knees. Your head's in a whirl. And then you feel light as a feather, and before you know it, you're walking on air. And then you know what? You're knocked for a loop, and you completely lose your head!
Thumper: Gosh, that's awful.
Flower: Gee whiz.
Bambi: Terrible!
Friend Owl: And that ain't all. It could happen to anyone, so you'd better be careful.
[
points at Bambi]
Friend Owl: It could happen to you…
[
points at Thumper]
Friend Owl: … or you, or even...
[
Flower looks at Owl shyly]
Friend Owl: Yes, it could even happen to you!

So how does it happen, great love? Nobody knows… but what I can tell you is that it happens in the blink of an eye. And it happens when you least expect it. One moment you’re enjoying your life, and the next you’re wondering how you ever lived without them.

The Ring

This post is not about a scary movie. I have had many requests to see pictures of my engagement ring. Your wish is my command! It's incredibly beautiful. Braden picked it with the help of our two awesome sisters, Berlyn and Jess. He did such a great job! It's just right and I couldn't have picked better myself.

(Below: shameless plug for the jeweler they went to, but we LOVE THEM! Thanks again, Stan!)

This is one of my favorite parts to the ring. This little extra diamond is custom. When Brade gave me the ring, he said that this diamond represents me and the way I stand out from all the rest. Isn't that adorable???

Including this stone, there are 29 little side stones on my ring. It was only after we set our date (July 29, 2009) that we realized the significance. Cool huh? :)

Christmas at Temple Square

This year I took a little trip to Temple Square with my soon-to-be family. We had such a great time (apart from some frozen-toe situations)! We commented on the fact that this may be the last time we set foot on the temple grounds before our wedding day! Anyway, we had an amazing first Christmas together with many more to come.
Here are some pictures. Enjoy!
XOXO

The Wedding Party

We have such great friends. :) Braden and I have picked our attendants. These are the people that are near and dear to our hearts and we are so excited to have them in our wedding!

Brittany's attendants:
Maid of Honor: Berlyn Prince (my dearest darlingest sister)
Bridesmaid: Jessalyn Davis (Braden's dearest darlingest sister)
Bridesmaid: Brittany Peay (my dearest darlingest roommie)
Honorary Bridesmaid: Charisse Horne (my dearest darlingest missionary best friend)

Braden's attendants:
Best Man: Paul Cave
Groomsman: Stephen Cook
Groomsman: Benjamin Newbold
Groomsman: Kyle Humphrey

Yay! Weddings! So now these people have signed their souls over to me for the next six months. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
