My bump on the head made me do it

So due to a splitting headache from an extremely clumsy fall mentioned in my last post, I missed posting this week's Weird Wedding Wednesday yesterday. It's kind of ok though because this week's wedding didn't really happen.

I got a call from my manager early in the morning on this fateful day. "Don't worry about coming in this evening," she said. Oh? Why not? Apparently the groom was in love with someone else and had run off with this individual. Needless to say, the wedding was canceled.

Here's the kicker: The someone else actually turned out to be... the best man, his best friend.

Yeah. Awkward!

On a happier note, I am shooting a newborn session tomorrow! Sooo excited! Now I just have to do my best not to get baby hungry. Here's an image from my the last time I photographed a newborn which almost sent me over the edge:
Isn't she completely gorgeous? And her head smelled like heaven itself. My favorite image of the day, however, turned out to be one of her big sister:
She was looking down at her new little sister with the sweetest expression on her face. My heart melted. I have a feeling I'll be cleaning up a heart-shaped puddle tomorrow too. Wish me luck!

Sometimes I do bizarre things in my sleep

Welcome back for another episode of Awkward and Awesome Thursday! This is a favorite blogging activity of mine.

Awkward:
- We have nothing but pickles, maraschino cherries and mayo in our fridge right now. Does anyone have a killer recipe I can try with those ingredients?
- This morning I reached over to fasten my seatbelt before realizing that I was still in bed. The alarm went off and it sounded like the beeping sound our car makes to tattle-tell on you when you don't have your seatbelt on.
- One morning a while ago, I woke up with a stick of butter clenched in my fist and no recollection of how it got there. Sometimes I do bizarre things in my sleep.
- I walked outside and my nose started running. I sniffed and my nostrils instantly froze shut. Why do I live here?
- Today I passed a sign that said, "Caution: Sign has sharp edges." Well, thank you for the warning.
- My afternoon class ended late, so I ran all the way to my car and drove like a maniac to get work on time. My boss greeted me with, "Hey, Britt. What are you doing here?" I was covering a shift for a coworker who was sick. Apparently there is no event today. It's next week. Oh.

Awesome:
- I was perusing the internet trying to figure out what to get husbandman for Valentine's Day. I found a website where you can buy a square foot of land on either the moon or in Ireland. Yesssss.
- Today in my writing class we were discussing the rebellions in Egypt and why they were happening when the lights went out in the building. Everyone just sat there for a second. Then my teacher said, "You see? Now our government is trying to control us by taking our electricity! Will we allow it??" We all shouted in unison, "No!" Then my teacher shouted, "Do we start a rebellion??" We responded, "YES!" And we all grabbed out stuff, ran out of the classroom and went to the student center where our professor bought us all hot chocolate. The classroom next to ours joined us. I love college.
- Husbandman gives me foot rubs. He's an angel.
- I have a job interview tomorrow! Finally!
- This shoot from this past December. This one was based off of the Nutcracker ballet (my absolute favorite). It's part of my fairy-tale character series. I'll be sharing them all over the next few weeks. I want to put them in a photo-illustrated storybook someday. I still have tons more cooked up in my brain. Email me if you want to come model sometime.

Bridal Beauty

This stunning creature is getting married at the end of the month. I had a blast shooting her bridals today! Go ahead and look at the picture again if you want. You can look a couple more times. It's ok. She won't mind. That's the wonderful thing about brides. They are too happy to care if people stare. I'm gonna stay here for a sec and marvel at her bridal beauty. *sigh*

It's Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

It's Awkward and Awesome Thursday over at the Daybook! Many thanks to the oh-so-lovely Sydney for this idea. Her blog is completely fabulous so check it out if you aren't already a somewhat creeper stalker loyal follower. So this week I decided to participate.

Awkward:
- The sole of my shoe ripped partway off at work tonight and now my shoe talks to people. Does this ever happen to anyone but me?? Sheesh! Pretty sure I've gone through six pairs of shoes at that job. The awkward was made worse by the fact that I work at a wedding reception center and I'm pretty sure shoes that talk to people are considered completely classless.
- Husbandman's creepiest face he can make. He made it for me last night. I predict the nightmares will last upwards of 16 days.
- Eating nothing but a giant Hershey's bar for breakfast.
- Admitting to you that I ate nothing but a giant Hershey's bar for breakfast.
- Somehow ending up being the one who has to hold the bride's dress while she pees. Bridesmaids were mysteriously nowhere to be found. How does this happen in real life?
- My contact falling out while I was driving home. It was my last one and I need it to last a few more days so I put it in the only thing I could find at the time that would keep it wet until I got home. My mouth.
- Making eye contact with someone through the cracks in between the stalls in a public restroom. This might be the most awkward thing I've ever experienced. Maybe.

Awesome:
- Getting awesome reading materials in the mail. This came for me today:

- Remembering that since my work shoes died, I have an excellent excuse to go shoe shopping!
- My puppy's reaction when I get home from work. He is always super excited to see me and it makes me smile :)
- Making fun double date plans for this weekend (we never get to hang out with other couples!)
-Finding out that the Pioneer Woman, whom I fairly worship, is coming here for her next book tour!
- This super cool jungle shoot my imagination cooked up for the new year.

Aren't my models awesome? I just love them!
Did anything awkward or awesome happen to you this week?

In Love With Light

As a photographer, I am always looking for that perfect moment with the perfect light that makes a photograph extraordinary. Today I am sharing a photo I took recently in response to a challenge on Love That Shot: to make a photograph extraordinary using light.

I took this shot in a field simply because the sun was setting and at such a great angle. I placed my subject between me and the sun and got down on the ground (literally lying on the ground, in the mud I might add) and tilted my camera just a little until I could see the rays of light peeking around her head. One thing that is important to remember when shooting a silhouette like this one is to meter for the sky (shoot in manual if you can so you can control this) and not the subject. Never use a flash for this kind of shot because it won't work for a silhouette.

Let me know what you think of this one. Do you love the sun flare as much as I do?

Summer Semester

This past week we went on a little trip to California. For San Francisco and me, it was love at first sight. Braden is bound and determined to move there as soon as possible.

So summer semester starts tomorrow. I decided to bust my butt for the next 6 months and then, (hopefully) if all goes according to plan, I will be able to graduate in December! Graduating has become my sole purpose in life. I wanna do this:

I have been in school for far too long and it's time to move on to bigger and better things. If anyone has any idea what those things may be, then please let me know. :) Hopefully some of them include weddings, photography and travel. Or maybe even a combination of any of the three. We shall see. Who knows what the future holds?

In the meantime, I have set some goals for the semester. Between my 3 jobs and my internship and summer classes, I may need to clone myself to reach them. But I am sending them out into the void anyway for now.

travel to new places
meet new people
take more pictures just for me
(the kind that are of everyday things and events that inspire me)
learn more about photography
work with a professional photographer
never forget to show my man how much I love & appreciate him
run in a race
get Bandit a haircut
get a new lens or two
have no cavities at my next dental checkup
arrange some more flowers
spend more time with friends
find my favorite book of all time
find time to clean my house at least once a week
get my homeymoons done for UBAG
get another article published in a magazine
smile and laugh more
make more videos just for fun
take voice lessons
be better at blogging

That's it for now. It's going to be a busy semester, but I'll admit I like it that way.
