Published!

Hey y'all!
I have gathered you all here to announce that I am officially a published writer!!!
Oh my dang I still can't believe it. I am so excited!

My first article has officially been published in Latter Day Bride magazine!!!
I wrote a four page spread about weddings by season. I came up with the ideas, met with photographers, spent hours tweaking, and finally submitted all of my work complete with pictures.

It will be available in the 2010 issue of the magazine available starting in January. My name is printed right at the very top of the page! My article even made an appearance on the cover!

Love you all! Thanks for your support!

Trouble-Maker in Training

Our dog is driving us crazy. Don't get me wrong, we love the little fur baby. But he is way too smart for us. We have a barrier keeping Bandit in the kitchen because he is still potty training. Bandit, however, has taken this as a personal insult and will not tolerate only exploring a section of the house.

Because our barriers only seem to irritate him more and more, he somehow finds a way to get around them-- no matter how creative we get. This ongoing battle between man and beast has prompted me to add a list to our blog of every barrier Bandit has been able to get around up to this point and how each feat of puppy power was accomplished. As of right now, we are at six and counting. If this goes much further, we might have to surrender and buy a real baby gate. I just don't think I can give him the satisfaction. The dog is beating us, people. He knows complete amateurs when he sees them. Wish us luck.

Family additions

It has been a while since I have posted. I was expecting married life to give me more free time with wedding planning being a thing of the past, but I am finding that just the opposite is true.

Brade and I have recently had some additions to our little family, the most recent being a rather large purchase. A new car! It is a 2008 Mazda CX-7 which basically translates to being a crossover SUV. We have decided to call it Sparta. That way when we introduce it to other cars, we can say, "This is Sparta." :)

The second of the family additions has come in the form of a little fluffball named Bandit. He is about 3 months old and tons of fun. Right now we are in the training process. Meaning that Bandit is training his masters to be good pet owners. :)

The last family addition is to our bigger family. Jessalyn and Kyle are engaged! Kyle will officially join the family on March 20, 2010. Congrats to these two love birds!

As our family continues to expand, I want to thank all of you for your love and support! I hope your families continue to prosper too.

The Not-So-Much-Of-A-Break Fall Break

This past week was fall break for the U and Brade and I planned to embark upon our first adventure out of town since our honeymoon. We had a lovely weekend in St. George and spent one day in Vegas. We saw the Lion King at Mandalay Bay and tried 16 different flavors of Coke from around the world. That was mega in-tense. Vegas is always tricky for us non-drinkers, non-gamblers and non-strippers. I would definitely recommend the Coke factory for a family-friendly adventure.

Side note on the 16 flavors: Don't try the Beverly. Seriously. Don't do it.

Check out the rest of the full-color, full-frontal, full-life photos from our trip here.

This Week

I had one crazy wedding last night! I ended up having to call Brade to come be my back up. Two cars were broken into so we had to call the police. One of them was the bride's who was also sick the whole night. Among the other things ailing us were clogged and overflowing toliets, vomit all over the dance floor, prohibited tailgaiting parties with disgruntled guests when we broke them up, contaminated punch fountains, and very tired, aching feet. Dang... I love my job.

On a happier note, this weekend we are having a "Crepes and Conference" party in lieu of our traditional game night. I have been doing some searching for a really good crepe filling recipe and I think I found one. It should be a fun time!

I am having trouble getting the pictures from the Murder Mystery Dinner to post. We all had a great time and there were lots of awesome costumes! For those of you who have Facebook, I have posted them there. For all others, here is the public link: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=121557&id=554137330&l=5a8d0f05ef

One final thing to add: I have become inspired after seeing the movie "Julie and Julia." If you haven't seen it, DO. It's so good! So I am trying lots of new recipes and expanding my culinary skills thanks to Amy Adams. My husband is very happy with this idea. :) Tonight I am going to make Toffee Apple Dip. Hopefully I will have some left over for Sunday! Have a good weekend!

Britt's Writing Aspirations

The wedding industry is a very interesting line of work to be involved in. You meet all kinds of people from all walks of life and watch them try to sift through all of these elements to ultimately create this event for one of the most important days of their lives. After some prodding from my mother-in-law, I've decided that I'm going to write a book (someday) about some of the more colorful people, happenings, etc. that I have met or witnessed during my time with weddings. I'm not sure what it's going to be like yet. We will see if it turns into anything at all. But I am, after all, in school to be a writer. So we'll see what evolves from this project. For now I'm just going to record these events. Let me know if you have any ideas. Love you all!

The Murder Mystery Dinner

This Sunday we are going to have a murder mystery dinner for game night! I think it's going to be lots and lots of fun! The game is called "Deadly Ever After." The characters are all from stories from books. Hopefully everyone will dress up and get really into it. Here is the list of characters:
Brittany- Scheherazade (the victim)

Braden- Long John Silver (the pirate)

Teagan- Mr. Holmes (the detective)

Kate- Alice (the curious one)

Jessalyn- Juliet (the romantic one)

Ben- Prince C. (the charming shoe designer)

Seanne- Red Riding Hood (the baker)

Amy- Snow White (the trusting one)

Steven- The Count (the vampire)

Ian- Hamlet (the thoughtful one)

Kyle- The Mad Hatter (the fashion expert)

Cortney- Rapunzel (the hair dresser)

Preston- Robin Hood (the tree lover)

Berlyn- W. W. (the witch)

The game is on to find out who the murderer is! I will for sure post some pictures of this highly anticipated event!

*Update* This night was ridiculously fun! I would definitely recommend it for a big group activity. You can see photos here.
