Lonely and Hunting Spiders

It's Awkward and Awesome Thursday! I haven't done this for a while. But there's not much to do around here tonight.

Awkward:
- Braden is gone for the weekend on the Davis family vacation. Yes, I am a Davis. No, I didn't go with. I have a new job, see. I'm still in training. This isn't so much awkward as sad. I'm lonely without my love. At least Bandit is here to keep me company.
- Speaking of Bandit, have you seen the way that dude sleeps? Observe:

That can't possibly be comfortable.
- The pawprints on those pictures. It's to maintain modesty. But it's pretty awkward.
- The incident that occurred a mere 20 minutes after husbandman left for the weekend. It involved a spider, the TV keychain mentioned in this post, a shoe and a glass of water. It ended with a bruise on my hip and a soaking wet dog. Somehow, the spider is still roaming freely about my apartment.
- Clipping my toenails. Awkward position, where to put them?, awkward crotch exposure, just...awkward. Does anyone else feel this way about this project?
- When you go to a bathroom in a public place alone and the toilet paper is empty.
- I wonder if Owl City has ever actually thought about getting a thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs. That would be completely terrifying!
- Love handles. Why are they called that? My feelings toward them have nothing to do with love.

Awesome:
- The person who decided to print the tag on the inside of t-shirts. Finally the itching has stopped!
- I saw a big, scary-looking guy buying kitten food today. Never again will I judge a book by its cover.
- Self checkout. Sometimes it's nice to avoid awkward conversations with the cashiers. Times like when you're buying feminine stuff. Or itch cream.
- I typed this sentence using only my toes and a hairbrush.
- Costco samples. Aka free lunch for poor college students.
- I figured out a cure for depression. A place where you can go and play with hundreds and hundreds of puppies.
- A friend of mine from work used to be a singer on a cruise ship. He decided to start singing "My Heart Will Go On" to end his set. On a big ship. Brilliant choice, no?

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

I'll be here. Lonely and hunting spiders.

Car rides are the joy of life

Even when it's raining, his greatest joy in life is riding in the car with his head out the window. Weirdo.

The post that wasn't

So today is supposed to be Weird Wedding Wednesday. I'm going to spare you, however. I just got back from a three-hour finals review session and my brain is beginning to melt out of my ears. I feel like today's wedding story would end up being either completely incoherent or possibly so boring that you would wish the internet was never even invented.

Instead, I'm going to share with you a super cute picture of Bandit enjoying the random snowfall from the other day. I can assure you that he was the only one who did.

Oh, What a Beautiful Day

Today was a beautiful day! We spent a lot of time with some good old-fashioned elbow grease trying to get our car clean in the aftermath of this. It was a big job. But I didn't care because we were outside and it was such a gorgeous day! It made my heart sing and rainbows and unicorns shoot out of my fingertips. It was that great.

We took puppy along. He liked being outside too. He disliked the sound of the vacuum. So he sat over there.

Scenes from a Camera Phone

It's a completely gorgeous outside and I've been stuck inside all day working on my computer. This is what I'm looking at right now.

I think someone wants to go outside and play.

A Rat in the Pond

Today's Weird Wedding Wednesday is gross. It talks about death and rodents all in the same post. I won't blame you if you stop reading now. I wouldn't blame you if you never read my blog again. Although, if you made it through the Zombie Walk post, you're probably a pretty brave lil' soul.

On to the story. One fine day I was busy at work making a wedding magical for a beautiful couple who was madly in love.  So on this fine, magical day, I was meandering out by the fish pond checking on the state of the gardens when I saw it.

There was a dead rat floating in the pond next to the lily pads.

I may have gagged. I can't quite recall. I was definitely not pleased. So then I start having a debate with myself. I said, "Self, what should be done in this situation? Do I remove the deceased from the area now and risk making a scene during the wedding, or do I remove it in secret at the end and risk someone seeing it later?" What a conundrum. I decided to let it be for now.

A few minutes later...
Random guest: My son just told me there's a dead rat in the pond outside.
Me: *inward groan* Thank you for letting me know we'll take care of it.

A few minutes later...
A different random guest: Some of the kids are outside and they're saying there's a dead rat in the pond.
Me: We are aware of the situation. We'll take care of it. Thank you.

So much for not making a scene. I ran back into the kitchen to speak with the building manager.
Me: There's a dead rat in the pond outside. A couple people have mentioned it.
Manager: Just leave it there until the end of the event. We don't want to be trailing a dead rat around through the wedding.
Me: That's what I thought.

A total of seventeen more guests felt it was their civic duty to inform me about the rat problem. At one point, there were about thirty people gathered around the pond staring at it. I wanted to get on the microphone and be like, "Oh Mylanta, people! We are aware of the situation with the dead rodent. Can we please peel our eyeballs away from the corpse now and get back to the elegant celebration??"

In case you were wondering, I was the chosen one that got to dispose of the thing. And this time I did gag. For sure. Are you having anything yummy for dinner? :)

Since I've been told a post without a picture is morally repugnant, feast your eyes on the cuteness:
He likes to stick his face in the snow. Weirdo.

All Dogs Go to Heaven

I took this picture of my puppy late in the afternoon when the sun was starting to set. His fur looked so pretty backlit with the sun shining through. Isn't he a cutie? Sorry, but you can't have him. :)

This also marks the start of my 365 project. It's on my Mighty Life List to finish one. I've always wanted to do one. I have no idea why I haven't. Well, I do know, but none of my reasons are good ones. So I shall proceed.

Ecstatic Yuletide!

Merry Christmas!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

This is our baby in his Christmas sweater. Yes, it's true, we have become those people. He hates it. This face is saying to me, "Mama, why on the blessed earth would you force me to wear this indecent ensemble? It's just degrading."

"But puppy, you look so cute in your sweater. So cute it hurts! And at least we didn't get the argyle one that Daddy wanted. Let me take your picture in front of the tree."

Bandit would like to ask that no one comment on his nose and the shininess you see there. He didn't have a chance to powder it today and he's a little sensitive about it. Safe topics for commenting: the sparkle in his eyes, the lovely reddish color of his winter coat (he grew it himself) and the way his sweater brings out the black in his eyes.

Also up for discussion is the "scientist's" version of the Night Before Christmas. Check it out here. I'm pretty sure my sister and I are the only ones who think it's funny.

I particularly like this line: The prepubescent siblings, comfortably ensconced in their respective accommodations of repose...

And this one: Ecstatic Yuletide to the planetary constituency, and to the selfsame assemblage, my sincerest wishes for a salubriously beneficial and gratifyingly pleasurable period between sunset and dawn.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

We Call Him the Stealer of Sleep

This fluffy little guy thinks it's appropriate to wake the humans at 7 am every day to go outside. "What, Mom? You didn't get to bed until 2 am because of your ridiculous lifestyle? I would say I'm sorry, but I can't. I'm a dog."

We love you anyway, Bandit. Except a lot less at 7 am.

So Cute it Almost Hurts

This is my baby, Bandit. Isn't he adorable?? He just melts your heart!

Bandit is getting a haircut tomorrow for the summer. Can you imagine wearing a winter coat all the time in this heat? So here he is "before."

Braden wants to give him a lion haircut. We'll see about that. :)

2009 in Pictures

This week I have been reflecting on the new year and the year that has just passed. 2009 was a tough year for us. There were a lot of changes (mostly good) and a lot of upheaval in my personal life. I had lots and lots of trials, but I was able to overcome them and learned a lot about life and a lot about myself in the process. I'm thankful for my trials. I am a stronger person because of them. That's what our song of the week is about.

As I was thinking back about it, there were a lot of good memories from 2009. So here is a look back at 2009 in pictures.

What we did in 2009...

We cheered on our mom through her weight loss journey...
Before...
After... Way to go, Mom!

We met some good, slightly-off-the-wall friends...

We went and saw some cool shows and learned about the Circle of Life...

We went on random shopping trips to Walmart with our cousins at 3 am...

We discovered the creepy green circle and its many uses....

We said goodbye to a beloved vehicle...

And we said hello to a new one... Look how shiny!!

We learned to make beautiful flowers out of delicious frosting...

We put on some silly disguises...

We totally schooled our family at Wii tennis...

We went on trips to San Diego with our roommates and seeing the sun did funny things to us...

We made totally rad costumes to scare people on Halloween...

We got all gooey inside taking super cute pictures of our husband...

We watched sad movies and cried a tiny bit...

We colored on ourselves with Henna designs...

We played some really weird games that we got for white elephant presents...

We got a puppy and tried to teach him not to chew up everything...

We drank some very questionable looking liquids...

We got married in a special place...

We watched our friends get married too...

We ran away after so we wouldn't get hit by the rocket...

We dressed up in costumes and solved a murder...

We did some super amazing flying leaps through the air...

We took dance lessons...

We played some music on the drums and people clapped for us...

We went on a ride 10 times and almost threw up...

We ate tons of shrimp and almost threw up...

We got called to the nursery...

We found ourselves a castle...

We didn't bring warm enough clothes to see the deer...

We had lots of love in our life...

We built some forts that took up the whole room...

We painted our faces to look pretty awesome...

We made birthday cakes that looked like pirate ships...

We lived happily ever after...

At least for now!
Happy 2010, everyone! I have a feeling it's going to be a great year.
Love always,
